TCMedia recognized as a Thurston Green Business!
Through efforts spearheaded by TCMedia Office Coordinator Vicki Adams, our organization has been recognized for our environmental stewardship and will be listed on ThurstonGreenBusiness.com
"I am excited to be a part of an initiative to make Thurston Community Media as 'Green' as possible," said Adams. "Frederick Dobler campaigned for over two years to bring composting to our media center. In 2016, I was tasked with investigating and implementing a compost program. I contacted the City of Olympia, to find out more. Following the assessment of our facility, he provided us with recommendations, containers, and signage. I feel that by taking the time and effort to become a designated 'Green' organization, Thurston Community Media is doing our small part for the environment.
Sustainability and eliminating food waste is important to our organization and the young people in our community. To watch Let's Talk Trash, an award-winning short program produced by our the 2016 YPN cohort, click here.
Recognition of new Thurston Green Businesses will occur at the Thurston Chamber's Thurston Green Business Forum Luncheon at the Hotel RL Olympia on Wednesday, April 11, 2018. "Saving water, conserving energy, reducing waste and buying or selling green are all sustainable steps that improve the health of our community and environment," according to ThurstonGreenBusiness. "Businesses who take these steps to lower their environmental footprint find that they save money while protecting and preserving resources."

Best of the Northwest Awards Now Open for Submissions
Last year, Thurston Community Media members and staff won in seven categories of the Best of the Northwest Awards. Can we sweep the competition this year?
TCMedia members are encouraged to enter their programming into this regional contest. We are able to offer 50% off entrance fees to five members (one entry per person). If you are interested in taking advantage of this opportunity, email Andrea Capere or call 360-956-3100.
The Best of the Northwest Awards is a chance for you to showcase exceptional media programs. This prestigious awards contest honors outstanding programs produced by community media/PEG (public, educational, government) access TV and other non-commercial media in the Northwest region (Alaska, Alberta, British Columbia, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming) of the Alliance for Community Media.
For over 20 years, Best of the Northwest has supported programs that are made on a local level. With your entry, you'll be joining a group of the Northwest's most successful community and local access producers. Entries will be judged at community media centers outside of the Northwest Region.
Entries are being accepted now through February 2, 2018. Awards will be presented at the Alliance for Community Media Northwest Regional Conference on April 28, 2018.
The 2018 NW Media Summit: Access the Future, presented by the Alliance for Community Media - Northwest Region, takes place April 27-28 in Portland, OR at Open Signal: Portland Community Media Center.
