Start a Garageband!

Start your music career off with a bang, crash, boom! This camp focuses on beginners music production using the software Garageband for the iPad. Students will learn the foundational skills of music structure, songwriting, and beat creation in pursuit of creating an original song.
Ages: 12 and Up
Acting for the Camera
Instructor: Moema Umann
(3 sessions/4 hours) Saturdays - Noon - 4:00 pm Nov 7, 14 & 21
This course begins where all great screen performance does: with the actor. Before we touch a camera, we build the foundation: a fully realized character and the presence to inhabit them truthfully in the moment. We'll take an introductory look at the Method, one of film's most enduring and often misunderstood acting traditions, separating the mythology from the practice and exploring a set of core exercises that make it immediately useful on screen.
From there, we turn our attention outward to the camera itself and the craft of working with it. You'll learn the unwritten language of the set: marks, blocking, frame awareness, and how to move in ways that serve both the scene and the shot. We'll cover set etiquette, industry terminology, and the practical strategies that help actors feel confident and collaborative on a professional production.
By the end of the course, you'll understand that the camera doesn't change what acting is. It just asks you to trust it more deeply.

Senior Digital Literacy and Safety

Combat the rise of digital crime, identity theft and fraud. Learn the basics of phone and computer literacy and protection. Seniors will be taught how to identify digital scams, and prevent financial fraud targeting older adults.The class covers important topics like data protection, identity theft, password protocols and fraud scenarios. Learn the common ways fraudsters identify and mislead their victims and find ways to minimize your potential vulnerability. Learn how to keep your devices safer and from cyber criminals and engage confidently with the digital world.

Senior Cell Phone Video Basics

Impress your grandkids! In this multimedia age, it’s time to learn the basics of video communication on modern cellphones. Seniors will practice handy camera and audio tips. The class covers the basics of video communicating, capturing, recording and sharing. Learn how composition, lighting, sound and capture settings will make your video calls and recordings look their best. Practice adding effects to the video to make your message really stand out.
Materials: Please bring your own charged and functioning smartphone.

Winter Camp - Animation Crash Course
Instructor: Hania Bielec
3 sessions/4 hours) Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday, December 28th, 29th & 30th, 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
This three day crash course is designed to introduce students grade 1-5 to the exciting world of animation and provides them with the fundamental skills and knowledge needed to create their own animated projects. Students will learn stop motion and 2D hand drawn animation techniques, explore animation software and tools, and gain a deeper understanding of storytelling. Start the new year with a new hobby and discover the limitless possibilities of animation!
Age: at least 6 yrs but less than 10y
