2023 YPN Summer Camps

Summer programs are held in person, at the TCMedia facilities. Registration is through Olympia Parks, Arts & Recreation & Lacey Parks & Recreation Department. You do not have to be a resident of either city to register.

Animation Fun - Ages 8-11

Fee: $175

July 10-14, 9:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Learn various styles of animation using iPads. Create your animation story using Claymation, common objects, paper cut-outs, and digital 2-D drawings. You will experiment with sound production, editing, and storytelling, and use various techniques to make your animation.  Drop-off available starting at 9:15 a.m.  Lunchtime supervision is available when you sign up for both morning & afternoon media camps that run the same week. Please bring snacks, lunch, and a water bottle.

In the News: TV Studio Production  - Ages 8-11      

July 10-14 , 2:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.                    

Students will produce video segments to be compiled into a news magazine program produced in Thurston Community Media’s state-of-the-art television production studio. After researching and writing news stories, you will use professional video equipment to shoot and edit your news story.  During the week, students will work with local media and journalism professionals. Drop-off available starting at 1:45 a.m.  Lunchtime supervision is available when you sign up for both morning & afternoon media camps that run the same week. Please bring snacks, lunch, and a water bottle.

Animation Overdrive - Ages 12-16

Fee: $299

June 26 - 30,  9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Discover the diverse world of animation. You will be introduced to several different animation styles, and experiment in stop-motion, 2-D, and other forms. You can animate common objects, puppets, and paper cut-outs. Explore sound production, editing, and storytelling before producing an animated short movie. Drop-off is available at 9:15 a.m.  Bring lunch, snacks, and a water bottle.

What's the Story?: Writing and Producing the News - Ages 12-16

Fee: $299

July 24 - 28,  9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Let's Make a Movie - Ages 12 - 16

Fee: $299

August 7-11, 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Work through the process of making a short, narrative movie from writing the script, casting the characters, then shooting and editing the final product. You'll learn how to use cameras, audio, lighting, and special effects. By the end of the week, your team will have produced an original short movie. Drop-off is available at 9:15 a.m.  Bring lunch, snacks, and a water bottle.
